Cookie notice

The cookiesthis site uses.

We keep cookies to a minimum: enough to make the site work and to see which pages readers find useful. No advertising cookies are set.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. It lets the site remember something between pages or visits — a preference you set, or the fact that you are signed in.

Similar technologies, such as local storage in your browser, do the same job and are covered by this notice.

02

Cookies we set

  • Essential — keep your session and page state working while you move around the site, and protect forms against abuse. These cannot be switched off.
  • Preference — remember choices such as a dismissed banner so we do not show it again on your next visit.
  • Measurement — count visits and show which pages and insights are read, in aggregate. We do not use this to identify individual readers.
03

How long they last

Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. Preference and measurement cookies last up to twelve months, after which your browser discards them unless you visit again.

04

Cookies set by others

Where a page embeds a map or a video, that provider may set its own cookies when the content loads. We only embed third-party content where it is useful and we keep such embeds to a minimum.

Those cookies are governed by the provider's own policy, not this notice.

05

What we do not do

  • We do not set advertising or retargeting cookies.
  • We do not sell or share cookie data with data brokers.
  • We do not use cookies to build a profile of you or to track you across other websites.
  • We do not link measurement data to any client matter.
06

Managing cookies

Every major browser lets you see the cookies a site has set, delete them and block new ones. Look under Settings, then Privacy or Site data.

Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of this site from working, but you can block preference and measurement cookies without losing access to any content.

07

Do Not Track

If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to switch off measurement cookies for your visit.
